Travis is on a east coast journey to find himself or something.

Yes, that is Kelly Peters out on the dance floor. Incredible. I haven't seen moves like that since MJ broke out in the '80s.

Congratulations Darren. Give Darren a call or email if you don't know why it's the year of the Dyck.
Friends of ours, Troy and Heather and their baby Libby, are travelling Scotland right now and heading to N. Ireland. Making me very jealous and rekindling the travel bug in Sue and I.
I'd forgotten how much fun it is doing Windows updates. Currently at 22 of 37 updates. I'm trying to get my old Windows box in shape for Bruce & Lisa and besides having to figure out how to get rid of Linux on the machine, I'm also running all the updates/patches/etc so they won't have to on the dialup internet they get to use in the 'country'.
The main problem I've run across is that I don't have a modem. Nor does the old, old other computer that I used to use. So now I'm faced with having to go buy a modem in 2005! Crazy. Anyone have a PCI modem that they don't use anymore and want to donate to a good cause? (i.e. getting Keli, their daughter, onto MSN messenger)
I've also now got copies of Battlefield: 1942 and Battlefield: Vietnam that I'm guessing they won't be needing - first $5 takes each one or I'll trade for a working modem. :)
The slurpee is 40 years old. Wow, I didn't think it looked a day over 25. I didn't realize it, but we celebrated the slurpee's birthday last night with a really good one coke slurpee - thanks to Heather!
Andrea and James had their wedding on August 28th (photos on flickr here) and this weekend my other sister, Jamie, and her husband and baby headed back to Mazatlan where they live. It's wierd to realize that both my sisters are married and our family is complete - at least until more grandkids start to arrive, right now Matteo has all the attention from grandpa and grandma. With Jamie in Mazatlan and Andrea in Moose Jaw (now officially, she's actually been living there for awhile) we're the only ones left here in Saskatoon with my parents. Just like in Susan's family. Either we're the stable ones or the ones who are too scared to venture far from home. I'd like to think it's somewhere in the middle.
Dwayne Harms past away early this morning after a short battle with cancer. He was 37, a husband and father of 2. At present there are 30+ comments on the last entry on his blog by his wife announcing his passing.
From one of the comments, apparently a quote from Dwayne in response to someone else's passing, sums it up:
He finished his race, all the tasks God asked of him he completed and God called him home to experience his reward early, it is incredibly sad for us but they are not suffering with anything earthly anymore.
Dwayne Harms is a pastor in the city who is one of the few pastors I've met who honestly cares about each person he comes in contact with - you can feel it when he looks at you. He's someone who's not afraid to ask the deep questions of faith and life without knowing where the answers will take him.
We got word last week that he had been disagnosed with serious liver and lung cancer and that it's not looking too good. When he first found out he decided to set up a blog to write and document his journey and battle with cancer. You can read it here but be prepared for a heavy dose of reality, not the usual selfish drivel that fills up most blogs (mine included) these days.
If you're the praying kind, send up a prayer for him and his family as you read.
Sometimes you get locked into a cycle of getting up, going to work, coming home, doing stuff, dreaming about getting stuff, going to sleep.. repeat. I got out of that cycle when we went to Australia but it's very easy to fall back into it as I have in the months since returning home. Reading his blog is one of those moments that slaps you back to reality.
I had a bunch of stuff written but I couldn't get it to come out right. Long story short, we spent the last 5 days looking after Bruce & Lisa's kids while they were gone to Fresno for a conference. It was a lot more fun than everyone who asked us about it seemed to think it should have been. I guess most people who don't have their own kids don't realize how much life and energy kids give to you - people just see them as life and energy drains. I'd say that you might just be selfish and could use some more time around a kid or two to get some perspective back in life.
I even managed to use my old Mario Bros. skills to help Hannah (top right) with Super Mario Bros. on her Gameboy. I knew those skills would come in handy one day.
Badminton Injury

We went and played a little bit of badminton last night. It was pretty much the best game you ever would see. I think Luanne ended up winning every game she was in so I guess she was the ultimate victor - even though Kevin tagged her pretty good on the forehead with a birdie (naw.. you can't tell you got hit on the forehead).
I took away the 'W' in a game of Settlers we played afterwards. I came back from serious oppression and, frankly, outright racism to get the win.
Our friends Troy and Heather (pictured here on the far left) are having a baby! We had to keep it a secret for a bit until they let their families know, but apparently everyone who they needed to let know, knows.
So come August there should be a little Troy or Heather running around. Congrats guys!

For those who were there, we put up our photos from Marie and Jer's wedding over at Sue's family site. Go see if you made it into any of our pics.
It was Lindsay's birthday last week so we went to their place on Saturday and made him BBQ our bison for us in honor of his birthday.
This picture is up for no reason than to see if Darren is still reading my blog even though he claims to be over his blog reading addiction.
Tim hit the ancient age of 28 on the weekend and we went by to help him celebrate. I took the picture above using the panoramic function on our camera. It's actually 9 or 10 individual camera shots that made up that one picture. Aside from the freaky Mark face it actually works pretty good. I think I'll have to try it more often, especially if I have a tripod to properly line up the shots.
Friday night we had the guys/girls only night with Jr High. The guys all came over to my parent's place where we played some vids, pool, ping pong and even got into some crokinole. There ended up being about 32 guys who showed up so it got a little crazy trying to keep them all entertained but between the Gamecube, XBox and PS2 we managed. It's 11:30 and since I slept for a couple of hours this afternoon I'm not tired but I feel like I'm coming down with something. I've been popping the eichinachia today and trying to think healthy thoughts, but I feel like my head's been in a fog all day. Sue's trying to get me to watch Trading Spaces: Home Free... I think I may have to since I'm just going to toss and turn anyway if I try to go to sleep.
Oh, and we've got a girl coming to Mennoboy.com.
The Carlos Stalker Issue I mentioned before has prompted 26 comments (at present). It feels a little like high school with lots of anonymous comments floating around which is to be expected on the web. I always find it interesting when people start telling you what you can and can't put up on your own website. We're not talking about porn or military secrets here, it's a friggin love letter on a piece of tie-died paper. Who buys tie-died paper anyways?
I didn't think things like this still happened. I always thought that stopped after high school.
Go give Carlos some ideas on how he should handle this.
After Junior High we thought we'd setup a screen, use the projector and sound system that was set up in the lounge and watch a movie since Shannon had to stick around until 3am as a night-host for the 24/7 prayer room. We dispatched Travis to go get School of Rock while the rest of us setup the equipment. Turns out while Trav was driving through the intersection at Central and Attridge a lady decided she had enough time to cut across Attridge to the other side, forgetting that she was sitting on a patch of ice (also forgetting that she was a dumbass... had to say it for Travis). Luckily nobody was hurt and the main thing lost will be Trav's car to an SGI write-off. The lady seemed really apologetic: "What am I going to do.... oh this totally ruins my week... I was having such a good time with friends... oh, what am I going to do." (that's sarcasm kiddies) We still gave her a ride home so now we know where she lives so we can go egg her house sometime or something.
Oh, and since we didn't feel like driving all the way to Trav's house we ended up watching the first disc of the The Two Towers: Extended Edition instead. Such a great show. I still have the second disc as well as two discs of tasty extras to go through on that one.
As I type this there are at least 8 girls downstairs celebrating Dana's engagment with what they like to call a 'Bridal Shower.' I don't really need to point out that there's no sign of any shower happening, so I won't. Vast amounts of chips and chocolate will be consumed things that it's probably best I don't know about will be discussed.
It's funny how a lot of our friends have reached the magic age of 25 and are starting to get paired off. I don't think it's panic or anything because nobody's rushed into a relationship that they shouldn't really be in, but it is kind of funny how last year at this time hardly anybody was even dating and now most everyone is engaged.
Except for Darren.
But that's ok because Darren's okay. Although he sounds a little less confident in his single-ness now that he's one of the few left (in our friendship group obviously). So, wherever you are tonight - raise a pint to Darren and wish him luck in his pursuit of his mystery lady who is out there somewhere, wondering where her intellectually stimulating unworldly loner of a man is.
Well it seems jolly 'ole England was very good to Lindsay. As you can read below, he got himself engaged there. The lucky girl is Christine Jennings.
So send your congratulations off to Linds. They're planning for a June 2003 wedding in England so start saving your pennies and watching for seat sales!
Things have been busy at work and nothing much happening elsewhere so all I got for you today is a little photo. 200 points to the person that can tell me who doesn't belong in this photo (aka who wasn't in the original):
So we had a little coupley party - Sue and myself, Mark & Teegan, Kevin & Luanne, Jason & Dana and Cam. Cam was flying solo tonight as Tenielle had made other plans. Much laughter followed as we watched the end of the MTV Movie Awards and talked and talked about a whole bunch of schtuff. Oh, and Kevin & Luanne got engaged on Thursday. October wedding. (Just seeing if you're still paying attention. Here's the pictures to prove that it did happen:
aybe my contacts need adjusting, but does anyone else think it looks like mark is wearing a dress in this picture?
(this picture snagged from www.realcontact.org
just so we don't have another incident like my previous post :), here's what i know about people in relationships:
dating - kevin & luanne, cam & tenielle, lindsay & christine(from uk)
engaged - dana & jason (sept 8?)
definitely available but not necessarily looking - darren
if i've left anyone out, feel free to add them in the comments
