1031 Documentary

Don't mind the ugly website for right now. The important thing is that the trailer is up and ready to be consumed by the masses. Go see what all the fuss is about.

Flickr Sold Out?

Flickr Complaints

Thomas Hawk has compiled a bunch of comments from flickr users who are upset over Flickr's recent decision to force users to get a Yahoo ID in order to continue their flickring, among other things (limiting a photo to 75 tags, limiting you to 3,000 contacts).

I made the switch a month or two ago and it didn't really stress me out this much. It's a similar whining sound that people make when their favorite band that no one has heard of suddenly gets their song on the radio/tv/movie/etc. If you'd like to join in on the wailing, hit up the flickr forum. Otherwise, make the switch and continue flickring.

Mmmm... bagels.

Sue Making Bagels, Originally uploaded by iChris.

Last week Sue made some awesome homemade bagels. I've got a serious weakness for carb-related items, especially bread based food. Mmmm... bagels.

Demetri Martin vs Vista

Demetri Martin

Demetri Martin (of the Daily Show, now with his own Comedy Central special) is part of this viral/promo for Windows Vista. It doesn't do much to promote Vista, other than I just talked about it in my blog entry. Watch and enjoy - you'll laugh and cry at the same time.

iBook on eBay

Since Sue has been upgraded to a MacBook, we've got an extra iBook sitting around here. I've listed it on ebay - click here to view the listing - so feel free to go make a bid if you're interested. Obviously those of you living near me wouldn't have to worry about paying for shipping.

It's a 1GHz G4 iBook with a 12" screen, 768MB SDRAM, 100GB Hard drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo, 802.11b/g wireless, 2 USB 2.0, 1 firewire 400 and warranty on it until May, 2007. Send me an email if you're interested. Now that it's on ebay I'll have to follow through with that sale, but you can still pay in person and bypass the paypal stuff if you want.

The Great Blizzard of '07

Sue in the Snow

We got hit bad today by the worst blizzard of my memory. The buses were rumoured to be shutting down around 2pm and so the University slowly shut down as well. I finally caught a bus around 3:15pm (the bus driver pulled up in front of Place Riel and announced "I'm heading as far east as I can get." and so a bunch of people piled in) and didn't get home until 6:30pm. Normally that takes me 20 minutes on a busy traffic day. It was kind of fun for the first couple hours on the bus - people were chatty and talkative and I played kaiser with some girls sitting around me. But by the third hour people were getting antsy and needing a bathroom/etc. Some people just got off on College Dr to try walking on their own. Eventually they got another bus and split the people up into 2 different areas of destitination.

Lots of cars in ditches and many more just abandoned in drifts right in the middle of the road. Crazy day. Hopefully it stays bad enough so that no one has to go to work tomorrow. :)

DailyLit

Daily Lit

I'm sure this will cause some reading/book purists to drop their copies of The Iliad and throw up their arms in disgust - but you can now read books by email thanks to http://www.dailylit.com. Basically any book that's in pubic domain (i.e. the copyright has expired) can be sent to you in email digest form. The emails can come daily, on weekdays or just Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Google Earth 4 Released

Google Earth

There's a new version of Google Earth available today.

New Google Earth 4 features:

  • 3D Models - GE 4 supports a new format which allows for models which have textures. It also supports the new 3D buildings layer. The official release of GE includes lots of optimizations to improve 3D viewing.

  • Time Animation - the new time slider appears when KML content has been stamped with time.

  • New Look - GE 4 has a much cleaner look than GE 3. It devotes more attention to the main 3D view, and has a new navigation gadget which appears in the upper right corner. There are too many enhancements to list them all. Some notable ones are: Support for radio buttons in KML, network link icons animate when loading, new organized menus, and more GE Options.

  • Controllers - Support for joystick controllers and flight simulator yokes. And, best of all, the new SpaceNavigator (Windows only at the moment, but a Mac driver soon).

  • Regions - GE 4 supports very large image overlays which can be "tiled" or "regionated" so you can view the full detail as you zoom in.

Download it here.

iPhone and Apple TV

iPhone

I think Apple sensed that I was about to dump my cell phone and move to having just 1 cell in the house instead of 2 - so they announced their version of a cell phone. It won't be available until June/07 and then only in the States with Cingular so who knows when/if Rogers will carry it up here, but it looks very, very nice. Full details here.. $499US for 4GB model, $599 for 8GB version - on a 2 year contract with Cingular.

A video of the keynote presentation will be available here later today.

Goodbye Mexico, Hello Winter

We're back from Mazatlan and not really enjoying the cold weather we're getting here now. If you're a sucker for punishment you can check out a whole wack of photos here.

Waking up Monday morning it felt like it was all a dream. It's good to pull out of regular life for awhile, but it's amazing how quickly you settle back in to old routines.
