Kreeft Quote and an Interesting Arcticle

Passed along from a certain youth pastor who may or may not want his/her name associated with this. :)

Hell is populated mainly not by passionate rebels, but by nice, bland, indifferent, respectable people who simply never gave a damn. Peter Kreeft

By the way, are the people a little dull this morning? No problem. Change keys on each verse, increase the volume and dump all songs in minor keys. What matters is that everyone has a great, happy, ego-renewing experience. Monte Wilson - click to read entire article

Get Even More Lost with Lost

The Lost Blog

If you're gearing up for season 3 of Lost and have finished watching your Season 1 and Season 2 DVDs, you might want to check out this recap of the summer long 'Lost Experience.' It was basically a web game that the producers of Lost had. Not critical to understanding what's going on (at present anyway), but it provides an interesting back story to some of the reasons why things are happening on the island.

U2 and Green Day

The Edge and Billie Armstrong

U2 are playing today with Green Day (or vice versa if you're a Green Day fan I suppose) at the reopening of the Superdome in New Orleans. Rolling Stone has an interesting article on how it all went down. Looks like they'll be playing “Wake Up When September Ends” and “The Saints Are Coming/Beautiful Day."

Update: View the performance here.

Latest, Greatest Top End Mac

Mac Pro

I don't think I've done this for the new Mac Pros - where I torture myself by seeing what the most expensive Mac you can build for yourself given unlimited funds. I'm watching some Apple Sales Training videos on the Mac Pro so while they talk, I'm pricing out my dream machine.

Mac Pro Pricing

It's about $6,000 cheaper than the last G5 wishlist I had done. The memory they are using is FB-DIMM w/ECC (error correction) so it's more expensive but better memory than the Powermac G5's used, and maxes out at 16GB of RAM. You can now get up to 2 terrabytes of storage (2,000GB) inside the machine. Crazy stuff. There's also two 30" cinema displays along with the $1,800 NVidia Quadro FX graphics card. I wouldn't really want/need this kind of video hardware, but it's fun to dream.

Wii Details Announced

wii.jpg

Nintendo, who is fast becoming the Apple of the home console wars IMHO, has announced details on the forthcoming 'Wii' console. Hit up Nintendo's site to see all the details and visit wii.com to view the menu/channel system that will be included. $249US price point and a November 19th arrival date. They hope to sell 4 million of these in the 43 days before the end of the year - or 93,000/day. Crazy!

Temperance

One of the marks of a certain type of bad man is that he cannot give up a thing himself without wanting every one else to give it up. That is not the Christian way. An individual Christian may see fit to give up all sorts of things for special reasons - marriage, or meat, or beer, or the cinema; but the moment he starts saying the things are bad in themselves, or looking down his nose at other people who do use them, he has taken the wrong turn.

One great piece of mischief has been done by the modern restriction of the word Temperance to the question of drink. It helps people to forget that you can be just as intemperate about lots of other things. A man who makes golf or his motor-bicycle be the centre of his life, or a women who devotes all her thoughts to clothes or bridge or her dog, is being just as 'intemperate' as someone who gets drunk every evening. Of course, it does not show on the outside so easily: bridge-mania or golf-mania do not make you fall down in the middle of the road. But God is not deceived by externals.

An Inconvenient Truth

truth.jpg

For those of you who missed it when we went a couple weeks ago, Broadway is apparently showing An Inconvenient Truth again.

It is well worth seeing and will, hopefully, change the way you look at the earth you live in and on. It's a positive documentary that leaves you with hope that things can change and gives you resources as to how you can help, as opposed to a Michael Moore type film that just leaves you angry.

Four thumbs up from this household!
