Creepy... very creepy.
If you're on a Windows machine and haven't switched from Internet Explorer yet, maybe this will help. The U.S. government's Computer Emergency Readiness Team is warning Web surfers to stop using Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. Here's a few browsers to check out as replacements for IE: Mozilla Firefox (and the coresponding email client Thunderbird, plain old Mozilla, or Opera.
Among the many reasons to consider dumping IE (by dump I mean stop using it... don't even think of trying to actually remove it from your computer, that would cause way more harm than good) and switching to one of the mentioned browsers: less chance of getting a web based virus, more popup blocking built in to other browsers, tabbed browsing (explained here), security.
My main beef with IE is that despite being used by the majority of users (only 44% on my site - odd), it's one of the least standards compliant browers out there. When you have to design a web page, there's all sorts of tricks and hacks you have to add because IE (and to be fair, older versions of other browsers) don't render current designs properly - and Microsoft hasn't announced any plans to update IE until they get the next version of Windows (code-named Longhorn) comes out, sometime in 2006/2007.
A bunch of fresh versions of some of the programs I use the most on my mac:
And if you like getting pulled into the Steve Jobs reality distortion field, check out the streaming video of Stevie announcing new displays and demoing Tiger, the next version of the Mac OS expected out sometime in 2005.
From a recent MacSlash thread:
We're looking after some friend's (Bruce & Lisa's) place for the next couple of weeks - so now we have our city home and our country home.
If the blogging is a little less frequent in the next while it's cause the internet isn't available in the hot tub yet.
It's great to see a little healthy competition still works: Hotmail is bumping up their storage levels to 250MB and adding enhanced virus scanning.
Still doesn't have the 'coolness' of Google's gmail, but at least it removes the storage issue.
13/14 degrees seemed kinda nice - nice enough to go for a bike ride over lunch anyways. What I failed to notice was the 30km/h winds that were blowing at -10 degrees. Frig. And it's supposed to go below 0 tonight.
Summer's beginning to look waaaaay too similair to that other season we have that starts with a 'W'!
Sue and I went to a grad last night for a bunch of the grade 8's that go to the Junior High group at FGCC. Some funny stuff while they were introducing each other. A lot of them hoped to get a good paying job, have a family, and marry a hot chick/Johnny Depp (it's a wonder what putting on a little makeup and acting like a drunk/gay pirate will do for your stock with the ladies). The funniest thing was the songs they chose to sing: In My Life by the Beatles, Lean On Me and It's My Life by Bon Jovi!?!? Hilarious. And apparently they used that same song two years ago at the same school. Someone there has a serious hankering for Jon Bon.
Hope you had a good father's day. We got to spend time with my family, eating cake and playing pool and ping pong. (Pics here for those who dig those digital image type things) My sister Jamie couldn't find a boy she liked here in Canada, so she decided to go to Mexico and get one instead. Some of those pics are for him to send home to show friends/family where he's staying while he's visiting. I lost 50 pesos to him at pool, but I'm confident I'll get that back the next time we play.
I also got to see the other side of father's day. A guy I met for the first time at church yesterday told me of how his father who is an alcoholic hasn't called him in over two years, and how the rest of his family doesn't call him either anymore. He said when he thinks about it, he 'gets some depression' (his wording - he suffers from a mental disability) and thinks about ending his life. When he prays, those thoughts go away.
I found out later that he's seeing Mark's dad, who will be able to offer him infinitely better help than I could. I appreciated his honesty and openess and I wish more of us could be transparent like that in our low times as well as when we're "ok".
We did a bit of filming tonight on Travis' masterpiece. Check out the pics yo.
U2's new single is apparently finished.
If you're in Dublin, head by the studio with a minidisc recorder and grab some samples of the tunes. :)
I've got 5 more invites. I'm gonna run out of people to invite pretty soon.
I sent one to David Mosher so if anyone else wants one, lemme know.
2 more gmail invites to give out today. As usual, leave a comment with your current email address/name and I'll send one out.
Mark I've already sent you one since you were begging yesterday. :)
BTW, before anyone starts getting all uppity remember that it's a SATIRE site.
I was never a big fan of INXS, but I have to agree with Caroline that this is sinking to a new low in an attempt to gain fading popularity. INXS are searching for a new lead singer through a Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice, other reality cash cows) led reality show called Rock Star.
Not really a vs thing, but here's tutorial on how to integrate Gallery with MovableType.
I've got two gmail invites left - first two people that leave a comment with an actual address get one.
Just want to save this link: KeyShowX:Control Keynote/Powerpoint presentations over a network.

A little rain can't stop us from enjoying some fine BBQ'd kabobs. It's starting to feel a little like BC here with the constant drizzle/rain we've been getting. I think we're happy to put up with it though because the alternative is dry, dusty Saskatchewan. It should make for a much greener summer!
I was just ichattin with Mark and am thinking I gotta use this more often. It's just as convinient as the phone and with wireless internet it's like a cordless. The problem is I have no real reason to use it - it's just a cool technology. That's pretty much enough reason for me. I'm seriously tempted by the horribly overpriced ($189?!?! C'mon Apple!) and more useless to me isight webcamera just because of how well it works. I know in the latest version of MSN M$ made some improvements on the video component, but it still doesn't work as well as iChat with an iSight.
I think we need to convince Sue's sis and bro-in-law who live in Australia to get themselves a mac with an isight. heh heh.. Friggin Apple. It's like a cult.
I've been half-heartedly trying out Gallery for over a year now over on Sue's family site and thought I'd test my linux nerd-age by trying to install it on my home machine. Wouldn't you know it, it actually worked?
It's mainly because there's no MySQL required and PHP comes preinstalled on Mandrake (and most current Linux distros) so a monkey could do it really.
Saving this for myself later: using square pixels in round(ed) holes.
Ever wonder who thinks up the funky changes to the Google logo on special days? Well, now you know.
Don't ever say I don't do nuthin for the peoples.
From binarybonsai.com, one of the most prolific link blogs run by a single person I've come across. Everytime I refresh my RSS reader, there's 10 new postings from his site.
With the announcment of Airport Express and the iTunes Music Store Canada expected on June 15th it's shaping up to be a good Apple month.
The Apple World Wide Developer Conference is also up at the end of the month, where new Powermac G5's and possibly an iMac G5 are expected. Both are out of my price range and out of my "need" range, but it's still cool to drool.
Clickity clickity. Sure to be an interesting flick and good for discussion no matter which side of Michael Moore you fall on.

300 queries per minute across up to 1.5 million documents - I don't think that'll cut it for our home network.
Just a quick list of some Mac games I'd been eyeing up and wanted to save the list here since Amazon is so rotten at sorting their gaming section:
I'm sure some of you vaguely remember me prattling on way back when about some band called Pilate that Carlos introduced me to and now that they're getting play on radio and Much you probably hate them because there's some magical rule about a band being played on radio and TV that forces you to hate them even if they write a good tune. Which is too bad because you'll miss out on a great record.
After just finishing Dude, Where's My Country I'm wondering if Mr. Moore isn't behind this site.
Any of you geeks out there with a Linksys WRT54G (802.11G wireless router) or thinking about getting one should take a look at this one from Linksys. There's a whole bunch of cool, nerdy things that can be done with it and Linux, which it's running on.
Anyone want to buy a Hawking 802.11b wireless router so I can play with (and break) a WRT54G?
