cbc has been good to me the last little while. there is always coranation st. (though i've cheated and know whats going to happen for the next month). last week there was a documentary by Avi Lewis and Niaomi Klien (of No Logo fame) called The Take. it was about the worker revolution in Argentina. a few years back the economic system there collapsed and many factories just closed down. now the workers are going in and starting up the factories as co-ops without permission of the owners. it was very interesting. then on saturday i turned it on to waste some time while waiting for supper and who should appear but Sarah Slean pounding away at a piano, very good. there was a Nature of Things on rage which was interesting from a moral standpoint. all in all some good stuff. tonight is a doc on russian hockey by Dave Bidini (of the Rheostatics and Hockey Nomad). i don't like NHL hockey much at all but it seems to be something very different and more artistic in europe.

if only i could stay up for ZED tonight.. but i'm still sick.

i was gonna write an entry on beauty. on thursday(?) marie and i had a lovely lunch and got talking about the way in which beauty is distorted to exclude women who are incredibly beautiful (inside and out) but don't match up to some artificial/manufactured standard. i'm not sure quite how to express my disgust at this ideal. i've had many conversations with women when it came to me that for all their self confidence they still had insecurities as far as their bodies were concerned. and yet to me they are beautiful. disgusting.

maybe we should tell each other we're beautiful more often. that is what i learned at new years.

wonderful collection of pomes and plates in a book only slightly larger than this picture. cost me five dollars less than ordering it online and no shipping. joy.

just leaving a little "ta ta" note before i disappear into the "nights" for a couple days.

we're all geared up for friday which will be great even if it is at cruddy ole louis'. i plan on buying a book she wrote of poems and paintings (which i would loved to get signed but we will have to see.)

after next week i don't have scheduled work for three weeks again, so i'll have to get some stuff done. i actually did quite a bit of carving today, so that's a start.

for anyone who wants to hear some very interesting classical music find a copy of "In the steppes of Central Asia" by Borodin. we saw the saskatoon symphony perform this a few weeks back and it was wonderful.

enjoy your daylight

a few little tidbits

- new heading for the page, radiohead of course

- the new Mars Volta album is amazingly intense and beautiful

- "Blue Monday" by New Order and "Connection" by Elastica have been whored out for Mars bars and some shampoo commercial respectively. (i think. it might actually be a tampon or sanitary napkin commercial) FOR SHAME!

well folks, a bunch of us piled into Dori's dads SUV (which he so kindly lent us) and drove up to visit her in Cumberland House. the drive was about 4.5 to 5 hours, but with a car full of complete goofs it really didn't seem that long. spent a wonderful two days up there relaxing and eating far too much. very nice indeed.

Instead of penting up emotion or pain, feel it - rather than putting it away for a rainy day. I think everyone's blocked. I haven't met anybody that isn't a complete blockage of pain, from childhood, from birth on. Why shouldn't we cry? They tell us to stop crying about twelve: 'Be a man.' What the hell's that? Men hurt.
