Ju-On
we watched Ju-On: the Grudge last night. actually, that's not entirely true. we watched the american version of the movie, the one with sarah michelle gellar in it. pretty good movie, good for jumping and messing with your dreams. i think the japanese make some of the most interesting movies out there right now. they seem to be able to use the telling and presentation of the story more important than the story itself. the story telling becomes the art. i suggest this movie for anyone that likes to be freaked out and doesn't mind a night of trippy dreams.

all hail the hiero-imperium
shooooooot, the hieroglyphics crew just performed on ZED. there isn't a streaming video of either performance because of copyright permissions. that's too bad really because it's amazing stuff.

a bit of closure
i finally finished on the road. i thoroughly enjoyed the book. the wording and visual elements to the book are amazing. you could feel what was going on, see the colours, the energy..... very very well written. at least two people are now reading it at my suggestion, which will give me someone to discuss it with. truely a beautiful, intense and almost excitedly sad book. no wonder it kick started the beat movement.

new title
i've been trying to think of a way to work some of my favorite artwork into this page. the new header is a crop from a painting by Gustav Klimt. the (to my critics) is actually from the name of a different painting of his. i like the other painting more, but it's long and narrow instead of short and wide. go find out more, he did some pretty amazing stuff.

it's like a drug
i can't read "on the road" before bed anymore. it's like a drug. i get so excited, i can't sleep properly. the characters are just wild, and most of them just go and go. one is completely insane and almost never stops (he wants to experience everything). my favorite character is one named Old Bull Lee. he lives out in a country house with two kids and his wife. he's always reading and building stuff and thinking up crazy stuff. the only thing is he's got a mad heroin addiction. but he just reminds me of me.
i still don't like it any better than "catcher in the rye", but it's getting close.

i am an old old man
as i sit here in my chair, one blanket across my lap and another across my shoulders, having just finished throwing up and being unable to go back to sleep, i consider for a moment that i am an old man. i'm grumpy, i get confused easily, and i despise anyone more than five years my junior. luckily i still have control of my... plumbing.
i've bought two Gomez cd's this week. one at A&B and one at Future Shop (the second one being the result of a 10$ gift certificate.) brilliant stuff that. british of course, which makes perfects sense now. one is the second newest and is slightly less bluegrass?!? and more electronic. the other is their second album, which is much more traditional country/bluegrass/rock. the difference is sortuv like listening to pablo honey and then kid a. the voices are there and something is the familiar, but very different all the same.
i'm also reading on the road by jack kerouac. quite an interesting book, and i'm finding it enjoyable. so far i would say i enjoyed catcher in the rye much more, but this is still a good classic to read.

cold out in'n it
man, it's cold and stiff out there. nasty stuff that. oh well that's just where i live i guess.
nothing much happening in this new year yet, but i'm sure things will pick up.
picked up another Gomez cd today (bought this one). very nice. i was tempted to by a Atari Teenage Riot EP featuring Tom Morello but i'm gonna check on a vinyl version before i get to serious about the cd. also.. can anyone give me a reason to justify buying the first season of Samurai Jack. it's great great stuff but even with a 10$ off card it's 27$. why is all the good stuff so esspensive.
