Gomez - good country meets fuzz rock..... sweeet

Phantom Planet - indie rock meets creativity (as apposed to say, the Strokes)

Ratatat - electronica with only electronic drums... the rest is guitar and bass played masterfully thru effects to create the patterns

To Defy the Laws of Tradition

What if Christmas didn't come this year.
And no one paid for Christmas cheer.
Who would cry the biggest tear.
The child or the store.
Why do brides wear virgin white.
Most do not deserve that right.
But to choose a color of they're delight.
Would surely bring on the frowns.
To defy the laws of tradition
Is a crusade only of the brave.
Suppose the taxman, he comes to town.
And you don't lay your money down.
Yet Mr. Jones he killed Mr. Brown the other day.
Well I wonder, who's gonna go to hell.

?

as a person with strong interests in the arts i've often questioned the role, and needed limits, of sex and sexuality in the arts. so i have a question for the unwashed masses: what is the difference between portraying sex and sexuality? and when does something become pornography?

feel free to go nuts and use many perspectives (social, theological, psychological). try to be nice.

Netsuke

skull and drum netsuke

this is a netsuke, a small sculpture with two holes that is used to secure a purse or container to the sash of a kimono. i'm not exactly sure how tall this one is, but i'd guess it to be around 1.5 centimeters. cute little bugger anyway.
