today i picked up the entire set of Narnia books in one BIG book. very nice and half the price of the cheapest set of individual books (30$.) i also picked up the dover(?) cheap edition of Utopia by Sir Thomas More. looks interesting. one of the first books that promotes a socialist/communist society of equality and peace. it'll be interesting i'm sure.

when you're done with Utopia I'd love to read it! (great deal on the Narnia books -- I paid full price for the individual set)

Where did you get the Narnia book from?

mcnally. they had the individual set i want dearly. its the same as the set my mom has (which is terribly old, like my mom), it has the old pictures on the cover and is a little larger. the pictures inside are the classic pictures, but with colour added. i think it was 80 or 100$.

when i was eleven or twelve i bought a book called the "Compainion to Narnia". it's quite big, and is like a dictionary or encyclopedia. its got maps and definitions and crossreferences. very neet. so i figure they make a good set now.

I have the original box set, I need to get the covers "covered" so that they don't fall apart. My aunt gave them to me. Sweeeeeet. Don't have the companion though, that sounds really interesting!

what do you mean by the original? like the original hard covers? or the paperbacks in the box with the trees on it?

No not the hardcovers, the box with the trees on it and paperbacks inside. They might not be the "originals" for sure, but they're still cool.

ok, thats the ones my mom has. hers are in bad shape too.

Would I be ostracizing myself if I admitted I've never read the Narnia series??

I hadn't read them until Bible school when I was cast in the play and at that time I felt like the only one who had never read them (actually at that point I hadn't even heard of them!) But once you start reading them you can't stop.

yes yes you would be ostracized. no it's ok. but i would suggest getting into them. they're actually childrens books (on one level, and theology on another), but good ole english childrens books. the kind with proper stories and no padded corners.
