mere heresy
we've been reading Mere Christianity for our small group (a bible study by any other name), and since i was at work last night i read ahead. i finished the part where he talks about the theories about the Christ. he makes the point that if Christ was not God and was just a good "moral teacher", then He was either an insane hypocrite or a evil imposter. either way really not worthy of being called a "good moral teacher." alot of the things he talks about are one that i'm not shocked to be thinking about, but they are very well written and proposed in a very three dimensional way.

timmy's tats
i've been talking alot of sh*t about timmy c's (of RATM and Audioslave) tattoos. well maybe it should only be considered one. anyway, here's something to look at. the amount of area it covers is actually similar to what i would do if i ever got the nerve and the 20-30 grand. it'd be that much because i'd have really detailed art nouveau designs instead of pitch.

no God, no problem
Satan has no need of a religion devoted to him to undermine God; we have created a religion, which eliminates the existence or need for either.

Maria
Tha sun ablaze as Maria's foot
Touches tha surface of sand
On northern land
As human contraband
Some rico from Jalisco
Passed her name to tha boss
She stuffed ten to a truckbed
She clutches her cross
Here comes tha exhaust
And it rips through her lungs
She's off fast to tha pasture
Like cattle she'll cross
Degree 106
Sweat and vomit are thrown
And she prays and suffocates
Upon tha memories of home
Of Yanqui guns for blood debts o‚n tha loans
Of smoldering fields rape rubble and bones
Of graves hidden trapped up in visions of war
Of nothing no o‚ne nobody no more
These are her mountains and skies and she radiates
And through history's rivers of blood she regenerates
And like tha sun disappears o‚nly to reappear
She's eternally here
Her time is near
Never conquered but here
To tear away at tha mask
And now she got a quota
Tha needle and thread crucifixion
Sold and shipped across tha new line of Mason Dixon
Rippin' through denim
Tha point an inch from her vein
Tha foreman approach
His steps now pound in her brain
His presence it terrifies
And eclipses her days
No minutes to rest
No moment to pray
And with a whisper
He whips her
Her soul chained to his will
"My job is to kill if you forget to take your pill"
Her arms jerks
Tha sisters gather round her and scream
As if in a dream
Eyes o‚n tha crimson stream
Numb as her wrists spit shots of blood to tha floor
Of nothing no o‚ne nobody no more
These are her mountains and skies and she radiates
And through history's rivers of blood she regenerates
And like tha sun disappears o‚nly to reappear
Maria she's eternally here
Her time is near
Never conquered but here
to tear away at the mask

'bout time
finally finished (mis)conceptions by naomi wolf. it took me around six months. well worth finishing and i would suggest it to anyone who has any interest in family, womens, or childrens issues. actually it's probably a good thing for anyone to read, provided they aren't overly closed minded or apathetic. i'm not a huge fan of feminist "propaganda" since most of it has more to do with ambition or power than equality. but after reading this, i will certainly try reading another of her books.
the last part of the book focused on the apparent inequality in the expectations within marriages towards childcare. specifically it addressed how a couple can go from being equal in every way to being a breadwinner/caregiver situation within months of a new baby. i suppose this would be more apparent in a highly competitive and capitalistic country such as the states, but i couldn't help thinking "man if you lived in a communal situation where work and family are integrated and flexible, and you had a community that was supportive and close at hand, it could fix that pretty quick." but it's a mindset thing in alot of ways. men, no matter how "enlightened", often see child rearing as a female thing. sometimes it's just in the back of our heads and slips out when we're pushed or tested. i hope i don't behave in this way, but i can't really say. no matter how much i push those ideas or prejudices out of my mind, until i'm sitting in front of it, i can't really say.

the trouble with tribbles
i've been feeling wierd lately. it's like part of me is shutting off. i'm completely disinterested with most of the things i usually enjoy. everything seems dull. people are uninteresting. this doesn't mean i don't like my friends or that i don't want to be around them, i just find any group more than four causes me to just sorta phase out. music doesn't interest me the way it used too or should. i love listening to music, but it gets dull very fast and i find my self changing discs after two or three songs. art has been hard for a long time, i just can't seem to drag myself to sit down and mess around with it. but now i seem to be uninterested in looking at or reading about art. add to all that a constant lethargic feeling and life gets very uninteresting and uncreative.
i guess this is all complaining (and i know there is a movement against complaining happening on a few other pages), but sometimes it helps if you put whats going on out there. it helps you define it and explains some of your behavior to those who care.

Biggie Size Me
another day another doc. this one, like the corporation, was much much less biased than Farenhiet 9/11. this guy decides that because of the obesity problem and a law suit filed against McDonalds by two girls who blame them for their "condition" (how very american) he's going to eat nothing but McDonalds for a month. by the end of it he's on the verge of going into McLiver Failure (seriously). very interesting stuff.

Capitalism Stole My Virginity
Nowhere is untouched by the shame
Who said we could get by with our childhood games
Days of innocence are all long gone
Avoid the shock honey and try to live on
Woke up all paralyzed
All dreams corrupted in front of our eyes
Cause on every forehead of every little whore
There's a sign that says, 'baby don't come back no more'
Distasteful ugly and cheap
That is how you make me feel, I said
Capitalism stole my virginity
Capitalism stole, capitalism stole
Capitalism stole my virginity
Robbed out of our bleeding hearts
Smashed our illusions, tore them all apart
Now we are unsentimental and unafraid
To destroy this culture that we hate
Sort of tired of being nothing
When, when we should be everything
On every forehead of every little whore
There's a sign that says, 'baby we're all born to die'
Distasteful ugly and cheap
That is how you make me feel, I said
Capitalism stole my virginity
Capitalism stole, capitalism stole
Capitalism stole - yeah
We are all sluts, cheap products
In someone else's notebook
Distasteful ugly and cheap
That is how you make me feel, I said
Capitalism stole my virginity
Capitalism stole, capitalism stole
Capitalism stole my virginity, oh yeah

not much going on lately. actually i'm pretty bored. i got a few cds from the library again. scored DJ Shadow, Interpol (which sounds very new york ie;doves and maybe a little strokes), Deftones, Robbie Robertson, and something else i can't remember. I picked up a book thats a compilation of the writings and speeches of Martin Luther King Jr. it's super thick and only cost 10$, very cool.

testify
k. dot and i went to see "the corporation" this afternoon. its basically a two and a half hour doc on the corporation and what it represents in our society. i learned that a corporation is legally considered to be a person. thats a little disturbing. the doc also went throught the world health organizations definition of psychopath and showed that the corporation meets all the criteria as it is defined in law. all in all a great and educational way to spend two and a half hours, and probably alot more interesting than the same length of time in a business ethics class.
